About us

AUA Media Lab aims to promote public discourse, strengthen democratic culture, and nurture the development of a civic press.

WHO WE ARE:

Through cutting-edge equipment and tools, the AUA Media Lab serves as a medium for pinpointing target areas of media intervention most crucial for the industry. The initiative aims to promote the co-creation of well-grounded and reliable approaches to curtail pervasive misinformation and disinformation that corrupt the media landscape and falsely amplify narratives that undermine the legitimacy of democracy.

FAQ

We are a state-of-the-art media facility at AUA with technological resources available to both the University community and the greater media and creative community in Armenia. We are dedicated to serving AUA’s academic programs and colleges and advancing the broad landscape of journalism within the country. Our resources include a podcast room with recording equipment, both an audio and a visual control room, two multipurpose rooms to host events and workshops, a post-production space with six computer editing stations, and a catalog of recording equipment available for rental. Our team is here to assist with any questions you may have about our equipment, rooms, and softwares, as well as any other technological inquiries.
The Media Lab is located on the ground level of the AUA Main Building, with entrances on both sides of the stairwell.
The AUA Media Lab follows the academic calendar of AUA, meaning we are open from 9:00am to 5:45pm every weekday. We are closed when the University is closed. The AUA Media Lab is not available for use during intersession periods.
The AUA Media Lab has spaces available for reservation. You can work on your digital projects at our post-production spaces/editing stations. We also have rooms available for reservation where you can record a podcast or any other audio or visual projects. Along with these physical spaces, you can rent out our cameras and other equipment to create media outside the Lab. We even have spaces scattered around the Lab for you to sit and hangout! You can take a restorative break or find a place to be productive at the AUA Media Lab.
The AUA Media Lab is open to everyone! This includes student, faculty and staff of AUA, the general public, journalists, and anyone else who needs a place to work on their digital projects. However, only associates and members of the AUA community may rent or reserve our equipment and rooms. During events hosted by the Media Lab, our doors are open to everyone!
In order to be able to use the AUA Media Lab, we ask that all users fill out the Become a member of ML! found on the Get Involved tab of our website. This will allow us to keep track of who is using our equipment and provide you with the necessary information to make the most out of the resources we offer. To use certain rooms and check out our equipment, we may require you to attend a workshop or training session to ensure you are properly informed about our equipment and procedures. Users can independently sign up for these training sessions through the Training Session Form, also found on our Get Involved page.
All equipment available for reservation can be rented for a maximum period of one day (24 hours). If you need to extend your loan period, you can submit a renewal request ON the due date but BEFORE the item is due to be returned. Please note that renewal requests are subject to availability and may not always be approved. Room reservation periods must not exceed a time limit of two hours and must be reserved at least 24 hours in advance.
After completing both the Get Involved and Training Session forms, you are free to check out our equipment and reserve our rooms. You can make reservations and check out equipment through our website’s Booking tab. The page may require you to sign in with your AUA credentials or provide your contact information. After you have perused our equipment catalog and selected the piece of equipment you wish to check out, the page will prompt you to select the time slots for which you wish to reserve the equipment. The same protocol applies to room reservations. Once you have selected your time slot, the site will present you the AUA Media Lab’s Terms and Conditions, as well as Do’s and Don’ts, and a final request will be sent to our systems informing us of your check out. At any time within the AUA Media Lab’s operating hours, you can submit reservation requests and pick up your equipment or use your reserved room by checking in with a Media Lab team member.
AUA Media Lab team members hold training sessions throughout the academic year. Please refer to the calendar on the Get Involved page to view upcoming sessions. You can sign up for a training session through the Get Involved page and attend the session on your chosen date to become certified to use equipment and rent rooms.
In case of a late return, the AUA Student Code of Conduct will be consulted to determine the appropriate consequence. More information can be found by reading our Terms and Conditions on our Resources Available page.
Please let a member of the AUA Media Lab team know if something is out of order. We want to ensure our space and equipment are in the best possible shape for the community’s use! Please refer to our Terms and Conditions in case a piece of equipment you or your collaborative team borrowed is damaged: 6.6.
