Workstations
(Post-production spaces, audio stations, etc.)
Please read the following before making a reservation:
MediaLab workstations are designed to support every community member in being
creative. Here are a few rules to ensure a safe and valuable space for all:
Dos:
- Reserve the space at least 24 hours in advance and for no longer than 2 hours at a time
- Use MediaLab workstations to produce and edit content
- Reach out to any MediaLab staff member on-site if you have questions or experience technical issues
- Use headphones to work on your project (or listen to your favorite podcast while doing so), and be respectful of others’ peace
- Bring a drive to save and back up your project throughout and after your working session. Files left on the computer’s internal hard drive will be deleted immediately
- When finished, close all applications and put the computer into sleep mode.
- Experience the joy of being a creator!
Don’ts:
- Don’t overstay if the next person has booked the space
- Don’t use the workstations for other activities, such as browsing the internet, watching Netflix, or playing games
- Don’t download/install unauthorized software
- Don’t alter a computer’s configurations or unplug anything. As the saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”
- Don’t bring any food or drinks
- Don’t enter a space if the sign “On air” is on – if your reservation is starting but the room is still in use, reach out to an on-site staff member
Equipment
Please read the following before making a reservation:
One of our core principles is sustainability. We want to ensure the next person can enjoy
the Lab’s equipment as much as you do. Here are a few rules to make sure everything
runs smoothly:
Dos:
- Reserve equipment at least 24 hours before your desired check-out time
- Plan to borrow a piece of equipment for no longer than three days at a time
- Cancel or move your reservation if your plans change – there is no penalty!
- Schedule the pick-up any time Monday – Friday (10AM – 5PM)
- Pick up and drop off the equipment during your reserved time slots
- Give the equipment a try before leaving the Lab. Ask questions if something is unclear, and let us know if something is not working
- Handle with care and have fun!
Don’ts:
- Don’t show up an hour late: The equipment you reserved will be made available to others after 30 minutes of no-show
- Don’t keep it a secret if something has stopped working – the sooner we
- know, the sooner we can fix it!
- Don’t leave that charging cable at home – every piece of the equipment checked out must be present at the time of return
- Don’t transfer the equipment to another person. Once equipment has been checked out it becomes the responsibility of the borrower.
